This study tour invites participants to encounter the apostle Paul in the landscapes that shaped his mission and theology; the program integrates close biblical study with place-based learning across central and southern Turkey. Participants will engage in a series of guided presentations on Galatians, exploring themes of freedom, law, community, and identity in the earliest Christian communities. These sessions will be complemented by visits to key Pauline sites, including Tarsus, Pisidian Antioch, Iconium (Konya), Antalya (Attalia), Ephesus, and the wider Galatian region, allowing the land itself to inform the reading of the text.

Maria Pascuzzi, CSJ, SSL, SThD, is a Sister of Saint Joseph, Brentwood, NY, and a member of her Congregation's Leadership Team. She earned a doctorate in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University and a Licentiate (S.S.L.) in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome, Italy, and also spent a year studying at both the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Jerusalem and the Hebrew University.
Maria has taught biblical studies in seminaries and universities and was a tenured professor at the University of San Diego, CA, before moving east to take on administrative roles. She specializes in the letters of Paul and is the author of three books, over a dozen scholarly articles on Paul, and several popular publications. She is an energetic, passionate, and popular lecturer who has led study tours to Israel.
Until recently, Maria was the Director of Spirit Alive: The CSJ Institute for Faith Inquiry and Education, an online program featuring recognized scholars addressing pressing topics in theology and ethics. She is an active member of the Catholic Biblical Association of America and the Society of Biblical Literature. Maria was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, where she currently resides.
