Reading the Exodus in the Land of Egypt

Dates:
October 2027
Presented by:
David Castillo, Ph.D. | Katarzyna Kowalska, NDS, Ph.D.

Program Description

The memory of the liberation from Egypt has been one of the most religious significant traditions for Jews, Christians and Muslims throughout history. The story where enslaved people find in their faith the strength to free from oppression, has not only filled up the pages of sacred writings, but also been incorporated to liturgy and celebration in a way to keep the memory of salvation from pain and sorrow for those who suffer today. Many people, however, ask today if the liberation from Egypt actually occurred, or if the story is only a religious narrative with no historical grounds. Come with us to the land of Egypt, where we will reconstruct the past to follow the steps of Moses, Miriam, Aaron and the Israelites from the life of burden to the table of hope. In this program we will journey together through Scripture, reading the book of Exodus in the scenario where the story is framed. We will celebrate together, visit sanctuaries and historical sites, encounter religious leaders, and learn about how Jewish and Muslim traditions have kept alive the traditions we find in the Exodus.
